If you choose the IPSW installation path, you only need to do it the first time. You will then receive OTA updates for all future beta versions of iOS 17.

How to Install iOS 17 Beta Using IPSW Firmware File

  • Step 1: Connect iPhone to your Mac. It should be automatically detected and displayed in Finder. If this is your first time connecting your iPhone to your Mac, you’ll have to accept the invitation to trust the computer on the device.
  • Step 2: Open a new Finder window and under Location you should see your connected iPhone. Click the device name and wait a few seconds.
  • Step 3: While holding down the Option key, click the Check for Updates button. In the window that opens, select the iOS 17 IPSW file that you downloaded in step 1.
  • Step 4: The installation process will now begin. Your iPhone will restart during the process. After that, go through the initial setup process and set up your iPhone again. Make sure your iPhone is connected to the Internet for activation.

How long does it take to install the iOS 17 beta?

Depending on your internet speed and the age of your Mac, downloading the IPSW firmware and installing the Xcode for iOS 17 beta itself can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

In terms of the actual installation time of the iOS 17 beta on your iPhone, it will be around 5-10 minutes once your iPhone actually starts installing the update. In general, in some cases, the entire download and installation process can take about an hour or more.
